Kimball Farm Wrap-up

QuarterTanker
Kimball Farm Wrap-up
There were questioning looks on the faces of the participants when our erstwhile cruise leader past blame to his navigator even before we departed. Mr. Wenzel does not have a stellar record for navigation, having come in dead last at last years Bug Juice Rally. But everyone got behind our lead dog and headed off to Kimball Farms. The ride was scenic and the weather was “top down” perfect. The route was imaginative back roads but it did differ from the instructions. But, in the end we all arrived at the same, rather amazing, location.
Kimball Farms has food, ice cream, shopping, bumper boats, batting cages and lots more. We all had lunch and topped it off with some of the best ice cream we have ever had. And for this group of ice cream lovers that is saying a lot. Some even tackled the Banana Split although not without help. After lunch, rain drops were felt and it sent everyone scrambling back to the Vettes to get the windows and tops up. The few drops then turned into a downpour. We stayed dry and watched brave souls continue to ride the bumper boats in the rain. For some reason, this gave encouragement and bravado to some of our members to man the boats. We took the opportunity to crash into our friends without worry of anything more than a return splash. The storm was gone and we headed home as another event became a memory.

More photos of the QuarterTanker to Kimball Farm can be found here.

Toad Hall Wrap-up

Toad Hall
Father’s Day Cruise Wrap-up
Roy and Judy Charron’s daughter Terri Charron put together an amazing day for us all to celebrate Father’s Day. The weather cooperated and the tops went down and the roofs came off. We gathered first at the Rockland Park and Ride for a journey to an eclectic collection of mostly English sports cars. We made a stop at the Totem Pole rest stop to pick up more members and then a ride down to Hyannis Port with warm breezes was the start of a perfect Corvette day.

Toad Hall is an experience that makes you want to stop and tell strangers about it. It began when we were greeted by collector and owner Bill Putman who graciously answered all our questions about the cars. We were able not only to look and photograph, but to touch. Bill gave us permission to open the doors and sit in the cars. His collection is vast, all red and mostly English. There were a few Datsuns, Porches, and a BMW.

Cars are more than just transportation. Cars have the ability to be albums of memories. You catch a glimpse of an old car and the floodgates of memories are opened. Many of us shared a story of some long ago experience that was triggered by seeing a car in the Toad Hall collection.

Following our visit to Toad Hall, we went off to the Hearth and Kettle for lunch. Thank you to all the members, sons, daughters, wives and dads that attended and an especially big thanks to Terri Charron for a wonderful day. View more photos
here. Thanks to Tom Meehan for many of the photos.

Bennington Getaway Wrap-up

Bennington, VT
Weekend Getaway Wrap-up

All who attended the weekend trip to Bennington, VT owe a round of applause to Roy and Judy (aka Joy and Rudy) Charron. They planned and gently oversaw a wonderfully pleasant weekend. Bennington, a small college town, best know as the home of Hemmings Motor News offered a variety of activities for us to explore. Judy and Roy located a nice selection of restaurants to keep us nourished.

A number of new terms were coined this weekend including iKey and iFob. As the weekend progressed, an outsider would conclude that our group were life long friends. They would be surprised to know that we all met only a few short years ago, all because of a love of a very special car. Read more about our weekend
here in Judy’s Journal. And located here are some photos.

Tax Run Wrap-up

Tax Run Wrap-up
Russ and Judy couldn’t have planned a more perfect event. The weather cooperated and we are hoping that this is just the beginning of a great 2010 SSCC event schedule.

We met at the Rockland Park and Ride and close to 20 Vettes made it out for the 2010 kickoff. Our meandering ride over to Hull took us through Norwell, Hingham, Scituate and Hull. Russ and Judy picked scenic back country roads that make the South Shore such a paradise. Russ stopped many times to keep us all together and we all made it to the Red Parrot in Hull for a Jazz Brunch. Some of our members wore a path in the carpet going back for seconds, thirds and yes, even forth helpings.

Now that you have had the Vette out for a little leg stretching, a great meal and lots of talking over brunch, you can go back to the calculator and the box for receipts.

First Business Meeting of 2010

First Business Meeting of 2010
The turnout was high, the pot luck spread would make a caterer envious and the news from the front of the room was great.

The big news was the change of venue for Cruise Night. After two years at the Monponsett Inn, the officers decided to move Cruise Night to a location that was closer to where the majority of our membership reside. Cruise Night impresario Steve Boyajian gave all the details of our negotiations with the
Abington Ale House. SSCC held its Cruise Night the Abington Ale House for many years and left on good terms. We look forward our return. We will again hold Cruise Night from mid May through the end of September. Let’s all show up on opening day and have a record turnout.

2009 Vette Season Wrap-up

Vette Season Wrap-up
For some 2009 will be remembered as the year without a watering ban. Yes, even Norwell, a town that has had watering bans every year since the first lawn sprinkler was invented let you dump as much water on your lawn as you chose. Read More...

Recognition Dinner 2009

Recognition Dinner, Monponsett Inn
More than eighty members attended the Recognition Dinner at the Monponsett Inn. It was a fitting end to the official Corvette season. As usual the staff at the Monponsett Inn provided great service and delicious food.
We were honored with the attendance of Liz Bertrand and her family. This year’s Rich Bertrand Award for Service to the SSCC went to Carol Santacross who continues to work tirelessly for the club. This year she again conducted the Garage Tour and the Bug Juice Rally. We all appreciate the hard work Carol puts in for the club.
All the members that have work on projects were recognized with a certificate of appreciation. This year, we changed the raffle and had numerous prizes, many donated by local businesses and our club members. We used to proceeds of the raffle to fund our cash donations to the local food pantries. Thank you to all who came to end the year in style. We look forward to seeing you in January at the next SSCC meeting at the Weymouth Elks.

June Meeting Wrap-up

June Meeting Wrap-up
South Shore Corvette Club has become a club that should be the envy of many others.  Every meeting, every gathering is attended by people who genuinely like each other and enjoy the club's activities.  Our June club meeting was another example of what this club has become.  Our "cookie night" was well attended, and the cookies were phenomenal.  We were fortunate to have a master at pinstriping, Alex Olivera, show examples and explain the pinstriping procedure.  Several SSCC members have already had Alex create unique designs on their Corvettes, and maybe we'll see more on our cars.

Bill Wenzel gave a rundown of the recent Wings and Wheels tour, and Elaine Kemp described the recent Back to the Beach weekend.  Both events should be on everyone's to-do list.  You'll hear more about these activities later.

Mal Smith had an enormous display of clothes and Corvette items that could be purchased on the spot.  She also took many orders for more shirts.  The ladies' shirts were a huge hit.  This is the time to be sporting t-shirts and polo shirts with the club logo and perhaps your name.  See Mal if you want something special, and you can also get in touch with her if you'd like the logo and/or name put on a shirt that you already have.

Ron's Restoration

Ron’s Restoration
We made our second trip to Ron’s Restoration in Fitchburg, MA on May 30. The weather was marginal but a number of members brought out the Vettes for the trip. Our arrival was greeted with coffee and donuts provided by Ron. Everyone had a marvelous time wondering around Ron’s shop, looking, dreaming, and drooling at all the Vettes. It’s seldom we get to see so many special Corvettes at one time. There was a Baldwin Motion Vette, numerous big blocks and fuelies, some near the end of restoration, some just in the begining stages.

Ron and his staff were gracious and helpful answering the many questions asked by the members. Lots more photos can be seen here, thanks to Tom Meehan and his son Tim.

May Meeting Wrap-up

May Meeting Wrap-up
We had a big turnout for the May meeting. Jack and Eileen Donnally provided to SuperSubs. Delicious coffee was provided by our sponsor Marylou’s. We welcomed many new members to the club and look forward to seeing them at future events. A big welcome to Ted and Sheila Furlong, Lance and Shirley Mortland, Frank and Sherri Moody, Charlie and Juliane Goicoechea, Jake and Mary Ellen Jacobsen, Steve Sawtelle, Tom and Mavis Nash, Jerry Phelps, and Bonnie Macdonald. We hope to see you all at furture events.

Mal Smith discussed the Club Store and is in the process of restocking for the season. If there is anything you would like with a SSCC logo embroydered on it please let Mal know.
Elaine Kemp said that the Shakedown Cruise was officially cancelled. The trip to Harvard, MA may be scheduled for a fall folliage tour. More info on this will be coming.

April Meeting Wrap-up

Fantastic! That's the only word to describe our April 30 meeting. We had almost 70 people in attendance. There were new members and even some who have been with us for a while but who haven't come to a meeting. One couple attended just to see what we're all about, and they immediately became members. The SSCC seems to be doing something right, and that has a lot to do with all of our members. Strangers aren't strangers for long when they attend an SSCC event. They are welcomed by all of you and feel comfortable right from the start.

The evening started with a pizza feast coordinated by VP Steve Boyajian. Following dinner, we were honored with guest speaker Roni Lahage, the Director of the Marshfield Food Pantry. Andy Wening introduced Roni and told of his trip to the Marshfield Food Pantry to deliver the Club’s March donation. It is best to read Andy’s own words to get a true feel for the impact this program is having on the communities.

“The South Shore Corvette Club is to be applauded for the fine work it is doing on the food pantry project and I am so very grateful to have played a small role in the success of this very important project. My heart ached when I saw first hand the recipients humbly accepting food donations at the Marshfield Food Pantry. There is such a need for this in my own community of Marshfield and I never knew it until I physically brought the food donations to the pantry. I actually saw a Mom with her children in a Minivan waiting for me to leave because she was too embarrassed and feared I might recognize her. Also, several elderly folks barely able to walk, loaded food into their cars because it was the end of the month and their food had run out and they used all of their government checks. It is truly heartbreaking!”

Roni came to thank SSCC in person for our generosity with donations to Marshfield's food pantry. Beyond the thanking us, Roni provided information about the people in need of the state's food pantries. The figures are staggering. Our members have reason to be proud of the donations they make to help those in need in these difficult economic times.

The special election was held and we now have a new Officer-at-Large. Mal Smith was elected unanimously. She is returning to this position and will handle everyone's special order clothing items, as well as other Corvette-related goods. If you're looking for something that we carry or if you'd like to get an article of clothing that you already own embroidered with the SSCC logo or your name, get in touch with Mal. she can be reached here. We would like to thank Eileen Casey for her dedicated service as Officer-at-Large.

Thanks to Carmine Carlucci for the delicious cookies he provided for dessert. They were tempting for those who are dieting, but they sure hit the spot for all of us with a sweet tooth. Stay tuned for news on upcoming events. We have a busy Corvette season planned.

April Meeting

April Meeting
Don’t miss the monthly meeting on Thursday, April 30 at the Elks lodge in Weymouth. We have a surprise for you all...we'll be having pizza for everyone so don't eat before you get there!

We also have an important election to fill the now-vacant Officer-at-Large position. We will be addressing that at the start of the meeting so don't be late. There will be a guest at Thursday's meeting, and we think you'll all like to hear what she has to say. And, as always, we'll be reviewing upcoming SSCC and other activities that will be of interest to all.

Don't forget your donation to the Food Pantry box! Hope to see you all at the meeting.

Taxrun Wrap-up

SSCC's annual "Tax Run", hosted by Russ and Judy Erikson, was held on a very cool, but bright and sunny, day. Twenty-two Corvettes were led to Hull through previously unknown back roads. What a gorgeous run! We had reserved tables on the second floor of the Red Parrot restaurant in Hull. The views of the water and beach were unbelievable. The brunch was also unbelievable, and there were many who went back for seconds. Thanks, Russ and Judy, for a great day. We're already looking forward to the 2010 run! More photos are here.

March Monthly Meeting Wrap-up

March Monthly Meeting Wrap-up
Our was held on March 26, 2009 at 7:00 p.m. It was our annual

Mill Wharf Texas Bar-B-Que Wrap-up

Mill Wharf Texas Bar-B-Que Wrap-up
The Big Texas B-B-Q was held on Tuesday March 24, at the Mill Wharf. A big thanks to our resident chef Carmine Carlucci for a delicious spread of spicy chili, baked beans, coleslaw, cornbread, B-B-Q chicken, the meatiest spareribs you have ever seen, spicy potato wedges, cookies, and watermelon. We had a huge turnout and everyone needed to loosen the belt at least one notch.
We had a surprise birthday celebration as Alan Kemp turned 49. More photos can be seen
here.

October Meeting Wrap-up

October Business Meeting Wrap-up
We had a stellar turnout for the last official meeting of the year. It was Pot-Luck night and no one went home hungry. The culinary creativity of the members was apparent in the delicious spread. Thank you to all the chefs.

After dinner, we had our election and the vote was unanimous. For 2009, Terry Partridge will continue at the helm as president. Steve Boyajian will assist as Vice President. Newly elected, Elaine Kemp will return to the position of Secretary after a two year absence. Jim Johnson will remain as Treasurer. Bug Juice Rally Wrap-up

Bug Juice Rally Wrap-up
Carol Santacross certainly outdid herself with this year's Bug Juice Rally. And she even found a "Corvette Drive" in Manomet! When would that ever happen again?
The clues were there...but some of the answers were missed by some of the rally attendees. The trivia questions were tough for some, less tough for others.  And how many of us were able to find all the items on Carol's scavenger list? And don't forget the word scramble. Did anyone get them all?

September Meeting Wrap-up

September Meeting Wrap-up
We had a great turnout for the September meeting. The big item on the agenda was the nomination of officers. We were all sorry to hear from Joe Teamer that he would not seek re-election. Joe has been a valuable asset to the Board and has proven to be an exceptional Secretary. His timely emails have kept all of the members alerted to the happenings of the SSCC and local and national Corvette related events. All of the members wold like to thank Joe for his great contribution to the club.

The slate that will be presented for ratification in October is: Terry Partridge, President; Steve Boyajian, Vice President; Elaine Kemp, Secretary; Jim Johnson, Treasurer; Joe Amante, Public Relations; Eileen Casey, Officer at Large; Bill Wenzel, Web Master.

We would like to have a
Fall Foliage Tour and are looking for a destination. Any member that would like to take the reins and guide us can contact any officer.

Carol Santacross presented the details for the second running of the
Bug Juice Rally. Those of us that participated last year are eagerly awaiting this years version. Carol promised an easier course, better directions, more fun and marriage counseling at the end of the rally. The Bug Juice Rally is not a race. It is not even timed. What determines the winner is correct answers to questions that can only be know if you follow the scenic route that is describe in the directions. There is also a scavenger hunt component to the rally that helps you gain extra points. This is a fun event for you, your navigator and your Corvette.

We would like to again thank
Marylou's for the donation of the "Best Coffee in Town" with all the fixin's.

Getaway Weekend Wrap-up

Fall Getaway Wrap-up

When you put friends, food, Corvettes and a beautiful setting together how can you miss. That's what we had again this year at our annual Getaway Weekend. The Meadowmere was as nice as we remembered, with wonderful accommodations and a very helpful and attentive staff.

Bill and Eileen Casey showed up in their gorgeous new 2009 black/black Z06. There was a small private ceremony where they were inducted into the SSCC Black Corvette Chapter, Norwell Branch. Happy waxing... and washing... and waxing....

The weekend had it's moments. A dead battery here, an engine fire there, a bad alternator over there, and another dead battery over there. But nothing was serious and everyone arrived and made it home safely. There are more photos
here. We would like to thank Elaine Kemp for making the initial contact with the Meadowmere, Joe Amante for coordinating all aspects of the event and everyone else that put in time making this another great SSCC outing.

Carlisle Wrap-up

Carlisle Wrap-up
SSCC was well represented in Carlisle, PA for the annual Corvettes of Carlisle. If you have never been, it is the mecca of Corvettedom. There are acres and acres of everything Corvette. New parts, old parts, rusty parts, clean parts, waxes, buffers, zip ties, tires, exhausts, wheels, lifts, shirts and even sox. Yes, sox. And we can't forget the people. There are tens of thousands Corvette fanatics. And they all bring their Corvettes. I saw a Corvette hearse pulling a casket trailer. Even I can't make this up.. And heat, Carlisle is also know for heat. This year it was not as stifling as in years past. And the humidity was below 100 percent. So all in all, 2008 was a great year to go to Carlisle. We hope to see more members make the trip next year.

August Meeting Wrap-up

August Meeting–a Great Time
The evening was just right for our August meeting at Steve and Melissa Boyajian's home. We had a great turnout and everyone had plenty of pizza, salad and desert. We would all like to thank Steve and Melissa for their hospitality. Terry brought the business part of the meeting to order and we heard about the trip to Carlisle. Seventeen members went for the weekend. We were also alerted by Elaine Kemp about the perils of not displaying a front plate. Also the details of the Vettes to Vets were discussed as was the remaining parade schedule. We will be continuing Cruise Night until the end of September.
Eileen Casey did a brisk business with the SSCC Store. If you want any item contact her
here. Your item will be custom made if it is not in stock.
