Shakedown 2008 Wrapup

Shakedown Cruise 2008–Success

Shakedown Cruise-Newport, RI

"Worth the wait..." that was the opinion of everyone that went on the 2008 Shakedown Cruise. Because of one of the wettest springs in memory, we had to postpone the May 4th event. The weather gods were on our side for the new date. We met at the usual Building 19 launch location with clear, blue skies. About 15 SSCC Vettes were present. Due to a conflict, our original leader, Jack Donnelly had to relinquish his duties. Joe Teamer and Rodney Collymore stepped up and did a great job of guiding us to Newport.

Our next stop was the service plaza on Route 24. Waiting for us were over 30 Corvettes from Eastern Mass CC and Corvettes United and more SSCC members. It was an impressive sight. After lots of picture taking, checking out all the Vettes and talking with the assembled crowd, we were off the our third meeting place.

We arrived at the Fall River Plaza to fine more than twenty Corvettes from the Cape Cod CC. We spent time chatting and took a group picture before departing on our last leg to Newport. You can download a high resolution copy of the photo

Joe Teamer kept the speed reasonable for the long line of Vettes and we exited the highway in Tiverton to meander our way on scenic roads, past fabulous homes and beautiful vistas. Joe was always aware of the Corvettes behind him and he stopped anytime we had a possibility of loosing someone. Our final stop was the Atlantic Beach Club for a scrumptious brunch. Many members toured the mansions, shopped and visited the wineries.
