This year's "Vettes to Vets" was an enormous success,
to say the very least! There were
about 200 Corvettes...and a spattering of other
vehicles such as a Mustang and a Firebird...in
attendance, all bearing gifts and goody bags for the
veterans at the VA Hospital in Bedford, MA.
These cars came from every state in New England plus
New York and New Jersey! Words just cannot
describe what this gathering was like. Let it
be said that we all had goosebumps watching
endless lines of Corvettes arriving at the
Wyndham Hotel in Billerica, one right after
another. The event was incredibly well
organized, there was a police escort to the VA
Hospital, and when we got there, we all parked on the
expansive lawn of the hospital and were greeted by a
color guard of Armed Forces, as well as the veterans
themselves. There were tables and tables of
food for everyone, all put on by the forces at
Hanscom Air Field, and there were two trucks
to deposit all the bags and boxes that were
given by the Vette owners.
The whole event was indescribable and
emotional. We were very proud of the turnout of
South Shore Corvette Club -- 11 cars -- and
especially proud to hand over the club's $200
check. You can be sure that the money will be
put to good use for our veterans. Thanks, South
Shore Corvette Club for your support of this most
worthwhile event!
