At 9:30 AM we set out for our destination Hemmings Motor News where we would spend the week end in Bennington, Vermont. The weather was great. We made a couple of pit stops on the Mass Pike and then stopped for lunch at the Royal Diner on route 9 in Vermont. It was great to enjoy our first meal together.
After lunch we drove scenic Route 9 west and arrived at the Paradise Motel in mid afternoon. We just relaxed by the pool after our long journey. Dinner at the Ryebrook Tavern was not the best experience for me but everyone said their meal was good. I hope so.
Saturday, June 5
During the early morning the Vettes got a quick wash from a few thunder storms. Steve and Melissa arrived last night so we were all together. We all walked to breakfast at the Blue Benn Diner. It was a good choice.
Hemmings News was across from our motel where we met a Triumph Motor Cycle Club and we all enjoyed each others company. Everyone liked the classic cars, trucks and other motor displays. We took pictures and enjoyed Paul who was answering our questions. Then we all went to the company store and bought Hemming “stuff”.
Our next stop was a drive to the Bennington Monument, a tribute to the Green Mountain Boys, heroes of the Revolutionary War. Some of the members went up to the observation deck and enjoyed the view. After the monument trip a short severe storm hit. Luckily most took refuge at the Bennington Museum to enjoy and wait out the storm. We also visited the Pottery and bought some more “stuff.”
Steve and Melissa hosted a pre dinner party on their terrace and we got a head start with food and stories. Thanks Steve and Melissa. Dinner at Bennington Station was very good and we all enjoyed our meal including dessert. So good! Laughter was the nectar of the evening.
Sunday, June 6
We left in the rain for breakfast and found Pete’s Place a small restaurant that accommodated all ten of us at the same table. This was our last meal together and we had more food and laughter. It took about an hour to reach our last destination, Yankee Candle in Deerfield. Roy and I said our good byes and thanked the members for supporting our adventure. It was fun filled with large doses of laughter that just burned up all the calories.
